Our Projects
Papua New Guinea’s First Skate Space
In 2023, thanks to the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, local leaders, and global volunteers came together to build Papua New Guinea’s first concrete skate space. The incredible 10-day build resulted in a mini ramp, flat ground area, box ledge, and a repurposed shipping container. Soon after, a roof, toilet, and shower facilities were added, making the space welcoming and accessible to all.
The space was officially launched on 25 November, 2023, welcoming over 200 children for free skate lessons and celebrations — a day that marked the start of a new chapter for PNG skateboarding.
Free Weekly Skate Lessons
Since 2023, free weekly skate lessons have brought joy and opportunity to the local community — reaching hundreds of kids. We’re proud to achieve gender equity across our participants, with both males and females regularly attending lessons.
These sessions are about more than skating. They build confidence, connection, and community, helping young people grow through the empowering culture of skateboarding.
Coach Development Program
To help the skatepark thrive, eight local coaches completed internationally accredited Good Push training — learning to teach safely and inclusively. They’ve been employed as skate coaches ever since, delivering hundreds of free skate lessons to communities across PNG.
These coaches are leaders and contribute to growing Papua New Guinea’s skateboarding community.
What’s Next
We’re not stopping here. In 2025 and beyond, Skate PNG will expand with more lessons, regional outreach, and youth leadership programs.
With community support and partnerships, we can bring more ramps, boards, and opportunities to children across PNG.
